Robert "Rob" Payne

Robert "Rob" Payne, 58, of East Street, died on Tuesday evening at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, Conn. Born on Jan. 22, 1948, in New York, son of the late George and Jean Rose Payne, he was raised in Ossining, N.Y. and graduated from Riverview Boarding School in East Sandwich, Mass. He then spent two years studying at the New York Academy of Fine Arts. Mr. Payne was an accomplished artist. He worked with watercolors and enjoyed all type of paintings, especially outdoor scenes. He also had a passion for photography, the study of military history, reading and watching classic movies. In 1978, he and his family left Ossining and settled in Mount Washington. Throughout the years he held various jobs, including working at the former Ames Department Store in Great Barrington, Butternut Ski Basin, also in Great Barrington, Camp Hi-Rock in Mount Washington and Kelly Arborists in Sheffield. He was a member of Old Parish Church in Sheffield. He leaves his cousins, Dick and Evelyn Brown of Colorado and Randy Payne of Ohio. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for the late Robert Payne, who died Feb. 7, 2006, will be held on Saturday, February 18, at 11 a.m. at Old Parish Church in Sheffield, conducted by pastors Fran Ruthven and David Robb. Following the service there will be a reception celebrating his life. A burial service will be conducted in the spring at Mount Washington Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Old Parish Church or to the Mount Washington Congregational Church through Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
