CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock volleyball team Tuesday night rebounded after a rough start but could not come all the way back against top-seeded Frontier in the Division 5 State Semi-Finals at Chicopee Comprehensive.

Frontier jumped out to an 18-1 lead in the first to open the match, but things were much more competitive from there as the Redhawks advanced to the state final with a 25-9, 25-19, 25-23 win.

"It took us a while to get aclaimented to the Final 4 stage and get to know Frontier's game," Mount Greylock coach Greg Geyer said. "This is the first time we have faced them in my time at Mount Greylock.

"If we get to see a team like Frontier several times during a season, we are going to be better at reading and responding to their shots.   That's what started to happen as the match went on but we could not turn the corner in set three."

Mount Greylock led a several times in the second set and Frontier mounted a comeback in the third to get to a prolonged match point that finally feel for the Redhawks.

Celina Savage led Mount Greylock with eight kills, three blocks and an ace.

Jackie Brannan had three kills and a block. Takiera Darrow registered five kills and an ace, and Julia DeChaine served three aces.

Afterward, Geyer indicated the 14th-seeded Mounties were not satisfied with a moral victories.

"A lot of people are telling us we had a great season to go this far, but right now we feel like with one or two plays it could have continued through the weekend," he said. "If we took that third set with our energy and grit we kind of feel the fourth would be ours as well.

"It's a tough loss for us. We are a very close team and have been through so much together. But I am very proud and feel lucky to have had this time coaching these student athletes."
