SPRINGFIELD, Mass — The McCann Tech girls' basketball team brought its offense to Cathedral on Thursday night. Unfortunately for the Hornets, their defense couldn't do much to slow down a potent Panthers' attack that broke out in a 58-52 win at home.

Cathedral (7-13) had three different players score in double figures, led by Megan Campbell's 16 points. Allie Rooney added 14 points for the Panthers, who also received 10 points from Laura Powers. McCann (8-12) did a great job of keeping pace with the hosts in the first half, scoring 19 points in the second quarter alone to earn a one-point lead heading into the break. The Hornets' offense slowed down a little in third quarter, however, allowing Cathedral to open up a four-point lead. The Hornets only managed seven points in the final frame and couldn't make enough baskets to make a run at the Panthers.

Senior guard Ashley Alibozek led McCann by nailing four 3-pointers on her way to 16 points. She also had three rebounds and three assists on the night, closing out what has been a very solid season for her. Alibozek led the team in both scoring (11.8 ppg) and 3-pointers made (37) and was second on the team in rebounding (5.3 rpg).

Junior guard Mary Nguyen added 15 points with seven rebounds and five assists for the Hornets. She ended up being quite the multi-purpose threat for head coach Kristen Lewis. Overall, she was second on the team in scoring (8.85 ppg), and first in both rebounds (7.7 rpg) and assists (2.2 apg).

Nguyen should be a key player next year on a McCann team that loses four productive seniors this season.
