WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- After two disappointing losses in the Gene Wein Holiday Tournament earlier in the week, the Mount Greylock girls' basketball team showed some serious mettle by rallying from a nine-point second half deficit to defeat Tantasqua 43-40 on Friday night.

Mounties freshman Lucy Barrett was a perfect 6 for 6 down the stretch for Greylock, which trailed 22-17 at halftime. Greylock (2-2) trimmed that lead by two after three quarters and used solid defense down the stretch to earn a 15-9 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter. Barrett ended up scoring nine points from the charity stripe on her way to posting a game-high 23. She also pulled down seven rebounds, while teammate Alex Majetich chipped in with seven points and a team-high 14 boards.

Mounties senior Catie Benoit collected six points and five rebounds and put her team up for good by nailing her second 3-pointer of the night with about two minutes left in the game.

Greylock head coach Paul Barrett said "it was a nice win over a Division 1 opponent." He also credited his defense for limiting Olivia Brooks, the Warriors' leading scorer, to just nine points. Claudia Fleshman led Tantasqua by hitting a pair of threes on her way to a 20-point night.

The Mounties next host South Division rival Lenox at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
