Berkshire Symphony Orchestra: The Apotheosis of the Dance
WILLIAMSTOWN - The Berkshire Symphony Orchestra will perform its first concert of the season on Friday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. in Chapin Hall on the Williams College campus. The concert will be preceded by a master class with guest artist Miriam Fried, violin at 4:15 p.m. and also by a talk with Ronald Feldman, conductor, at 7:15 p.m. both in Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall. These free events are all open to the public.A grand salute to Beethoven features his Violin Concerto in D Major with Miriam Fried and Symphony No. 7 in A Major, two of the most celebrated compositions of the classical period, preceded by Gioacchino Rossini's witty and elegant overture, Il Signor Bruschino.
Miriam Fried has been recognized for many years as one of the world's preeminent violinists. A consummate musician - equally accomplished as recitalist, concerto soloist or chamber musician - she has been heralded for her "fiery intensity and emotional depth" (Musical America) as well as for her technical mastery. Her supreme blend of artistry and musicianship continues to inspire audiences worldwide.
Miriam Fried has played with virtually every major orchestra in the United States and Europe and has been a frequent guest with the principal orchestras of Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, New York, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, as well as with the Israel Philharmonic, the London Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic and the Vienna Symphony. Recital tours have taken her to all of the major music centers in North America and to Brussels, London, Milan, Munich, Rome, Paris, Salzburg, Stockholm and Zurich.
The Berkshire Symphony is conducted by Ronald Feldman and includes nearly 70 members, half of whom are students and half of whom are professional musicians. The ensemble presents four major concerts each season. In addition to performing the great standards of orchestral repertoire a recurring theme each year is the performance of contemporary works. Championing the works of living American composers has been an integral part of the mission of the Berkshire Symphony.
