SteepleCats Fall in Extra Innings

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Ocean State Waves scored four runs in the top of the 11th and went on to a 9-6 win over the SteepleCats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
 
Jack LaRose went 3-for-5 with a double in the game-winning rally.
 
North Adams (1-9) had a golden opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the 10th.
 
With the game tied, 5-5, Nelphie Lopez started the inning with a sacrifice bunt to advance Bobby Stang, the "ghost runner," to third base. Ocean State (3-8) then intentionally walked the next two hitters to load the bases with one out.
 
Waves reliver Andrew Jacobs then got a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning.
 
Jacobs struck out a pair and allowed one unearned run in the bottom of the 11th in three innings of work to earn the win.
 
North Adams used five pitchers. Joe LaPrade struck out a pair and allowed no runs in two innings of work.
 
Offensively, Stang went 3-for-5 with a home run, and Hunter Ray homered in the loss.
 
The SteepleCats are at Mystic, Conn., on Thursday.

Bourdon Blast Lifts Northern Berkshire 12-Year-Olds at Cal Ripken State Tourney

HUDSON, Mass. – Garrett Bourdon Saturday hit a two-run walk-off home run to lead the Northern Berkshire Youth Baseball 12U All-Stars to a 14-12 Cal Ripken State Tournament win over Groton-Dunstable.
 
Bourdon’s second home run of the game brought home Mason Tudor after Groton-Dunstable tied the game with a run in the top of the sixth.
 
Bourdon hit his second grand slam of the tournament earlier in the game to tie Groton-Dunstable, 7-7, in the third inning.
 
William Bayliss went 3-for-4, and Tudor was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs in a 13-hit attack for Northern Berkshire.
 
Maxwell Alicea went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.
 
Four different Northern Berkshire pitchers combined to allow seven earned runs and strike out five. Tudor struck out two and walked none while allowing two runs in the fifth and sixth to earn the win.
 
Tudor also pitched two-thirds of an inning in Northern Berkshire’s other game on Saturday, a 9-8 win over Nipmuc.
