New England Collegiate Baseball League elects new officers

The New England Collegiate Baseball League today elected Kevin MacIlvane as the Commissioner of the League. The 45-year old MacIlvane of Windsor, Connecticut is the Managing Member of an interim management and consulting firm, and co-owner of the Connecticut Baseball Academy in East Hartford, CT. MacIlvane brings a combination of business acumen and baseball knowledge and contacts, an ideal combination for this position, and will guide the franchises to take the League to the next level. The League also elected Kurt Svoboda, Sports Information Director at St. Anselm College as Deputy Commissioner. Svoboda is a 2000 graduate of Colby Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire and previously served as the League's publicist. He spent 2 years as an assistant coach with the Quarry Dogs, the League franchise in Concord, New Hampshire. Svoboda's experience with the league and its public relations and marketing facets will provide the league with a seamless transition and allow him to step in and assist MacIlvane immediately. Elected Treasurer was Ed Slegeski, the Vice President and General Manager of the Manchester(CT) Silkworms. He is an accounting systems consultant for Connecticut Health Systems in Hartford. Mr. Slegeski's knowledge with accounting systems and 20-years experience in local baseball organizations will provide the league with greater infrastructure in business practices. The elections were part of the February League meeting in Vernon, Connecticut, led by acting Commissioner Pete Dupuis(GM, Concord Quarry Dogs) and are effective immediately. Previous Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, Tom Hutton and Rick Gesualdi, respectively, submitted their resignations in early January and were accepted by the NECBL Board of Directors at the aforementioned meeting. Hutton and Gesualdi served for four years and helped push the NECBL from an eight-team regional league into one that has received national acclaim and attracts top college players from around the country. The NECBL, an NCAA sanctioned summer wooden-bat league, plays a 42-game schedule, in June and July. Founded in 1993, the League is made up of 13 teams from each of the six New England states and is recognized as one of the premier summer collegiate leagues in the country. The League is a charitable non-profit corporation.

MCLA Announces Four Finalists for Next President

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts announced four finalists for the position of president, following a national search. 
 
The finalists were selected by the MCLA Presidential Search Committee and will participate in on-campus visits scheduled for the weeks of April 6 and April 13.
 
The successful candidate will replace President James Birge, who is retiring at the end of the term. 
 
The four finalists are David Jenemann, Michael J. Middleton, Sherri Givens Mylott, and Diana L. Rogers-Adkinson.
 

David Jenemann
David Jenemann is dean of the Patrick Leahy Honors College and professor of English and film and television studies at the University of Vermont, where he oversees recruitment, retention, curricular innovation, and advancement for an interdisciplinary college serving undergraduates from across the university, including UVM's campuswide Office of Fellowships, Opportunities, and Undergraduate Research. 
 
An internationally recognized scholar, he has published three books and numerous articles, with research spanning intellectual and cultural history, mass media, and the intersection of sports and society.
He holds a doctor of philosophy from the University of Minnesota and completed the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
